Grabbing the camera from my grandparents with my knobby toddler fingers doesn’t exactly qualify as when my interest in photography began. All kids like buttons and gadgets. My interest truly began in secondary school. The enthusiasm, the encouragement and the eccentricities of my photography teacher made photography fun. He had a bushy head of hair, a bushy red mustache, and a state of the art laboratory. Since the class was comprised of a variety of grade levels, every student had a different level of experience, and I especially enjoyed working with the more experienced upper classmen. Mondays and Tuesdays were set aside for developing our rolls from the previous weekend, and the rest of the week was used to produce hard copies from our film. Since the classroom contained lighting equipment and backdrops, we would also experiment with in-class photo shoots. My photography class was the single break in the day from my very heavy academic load. I definitely had fun in it! And now? Well, even now, photography is fun, and digital cameras are quite handy. While I am always looking for an interesting still life or scenic shot, I find that people are more interesting to photograph, especially when I am focused on a close up shot to capture interesting lines and shapes. Sometimes the best picture is achieved when a person is not aware of the camera. Even for a picture that is technically posed, I try to remove the obviousness of the camera’s presence. It makes the subject more relaxed and the picture splendid. By the way, my name is Rejcel. It's pronounced like "Rachel", so now you don't have to hack your brain anymore. Aren't you relieved? :)
