When I step outside and feel the weight of the cool air descend, my shoulders are pressed. The condensed molecules fill my lungs; my skin breathes in. I taste the moisture in the air. The leaves above me dance, and the branches clap their rigid limbs as the wind forces itself among them; the leaves on the ground scurry and roll and twirl and pause. There is calm; there is quiet. I raise my head to see the sky darkening; my heart fills with tempered ecstasy. I know what approaches: black sky; violent downpours; electric, white, harsh atmospheric ribbons that crack the sky and send flutters through my blood; thunder that moans with deep guttural resonation. I am flint; I am exhaustible. Yet, I cannot avert my eyes. I do not want to run and hide. What is man when compared to this glory? What is man to a sky whose fury can rip through mountains, remove buildings and decimate machines while choosing to caress delicate petals? It is an energy I never tire of. I would welcome its undoing- as I do you. I can’t help it. You are a storm, and I can feel your approach like fire. I am preserved only by the rush of cold that you emit to prevent my combustion. I wish you could feel the rev of my engine; for a moment, I see only black and white. The intoxication would surely nearly make you burst, and you would keep coming back for more. |
