The Leaking was created in April 2009.  It is a small, square, high gloss acrylic painting on wood.  In an effort to extricate the painful feelings inside of her, the artist sometimes imagines her body being cut open and her insides spilling out before her.  After all, emotional pain can very much feel like a violent slaughter.  What would her insides look like?

Surely, such an expulsion would be ugly and volatile.  Yet, the artist finds beauty in the healing that follows.  The Leaking is an imaginary expression of such extrication.  The red represents blood, and the blue represents the blood that is not oxygenated.  Pain can come upon us so rapidly that not even our blood has time to “breathe”.
