Sterling was created in 2008.  Unknown to most, a smattering of dark, acrylic colors rests as the work’s background.  On a day that was overcast and cool, a calming, white glow saturated the sky, the air and the ground, and the artist felt inspired by its feel.  She applied white, silver, and black spray paint to the canvas in various horizontal and vertical strokes.  Metallic beads and a small, blue acrylic swirl were added as mixed media details to soften the painting’s appearance.  Sterling, as it appears now, was created within one afternoon in response to the peaceful and contented feeling the weather induced upon the artist. 

The painting’s name was decided after its completion.  The artist took a step back to view the painting in its entirety and asked herself, “Which single word can describe its color and calm appearance?”  The word “silver” came to mind, but it proved insufficient to describe an emotion.  “Sterling”, however, captures the painting’s overall “silver” look and the genuine calm that was felt during its creation.
