Commission a Painting: Step by step

Commissioned paintings are uniquely created for you, the buyer.  I would love to create a painting just for you!

Learn how to commission a painting in six easy steps.

            1. Decide

You decide, "Hey, I want a painting made just for me.  I want Rejcel to do it!"

            2. Parameters

You decide your parameters, if there are any.  Parameters may include:
                a. General color scheme
                b. Size of the canvas
                c. Painting style: abstract, impressionistic, expressionistic, abstract expressionistic, pop art, etc.
                d. Content
Examples: you want a painting of a dog; you want a painting of city skyline; you want a painting of
a cafe; you want a painting of a landscape

            3. Consultation

            Picture

You contact me in order to take advantage of a free consultation.  Consultations are usually completed within two or three conversations with me.  I will ask questions regarding your needs, and you may end up getting some homework from me so that I can fully understand and meet your requirements.

Homework: the following are examples of common assignments that I give to my clients so that I can fully understand their needs.

                a.  Google image search: I will assign you to get on the Internet and do some browsing.  Complete a Google image search for paintings  (key word examples: art, painting, acrylic, oil, abstract, impressionistic, expressionistic, black and white paintings, pop art paintings, landscape paintings, abstract landscape, etc.) and choose ones that you like and tell me why you like them.  You can speak with me on the phone, and we can look at the Google images simultaneously, or you can save the images and E-mail them to me.  Perhaps, you will find an example of a painting that you would want your commissioned painting to emulate.  A picture tells 1,000 words, right?!  I will never plagiarize, but giving me examples of what you like will enable me to determine how I will fine tune my own style and artistic ability to meet your need.

                b. Take pictures: If you want to commission a painting to fit into a room or specific space, I would like to see pictures of that space.  Again, a picture tells 1,000 words.  No written or oral description that you deliver to me will ever as effectively convey to me what you want as will a picture.

            4. Proposal

            Picture
            Client commission a painting proposal
After a proper consultation, I can provide you a proposal with pricing information and an estimated completion date.  Usually, the proposal will contain a sketch of the painting-to-be.  Any changes to be made to the sketch can be negotiated in a follow-up consultation.

Each proposal will include the up-front costs that you will incur should you accept the commission.  Up-front costs serve as a security deposit for your commission.  Security deposits are non-refundable (but transferable).

            5. Acceptance and Creation

If you agree to accept my proposal, then I will begin your painting immediately after receiving the security deposit as outlined in your proposal.  When the painting is completed, I will take a picture of it and send it to you.

            6. Delivery

Then, you decide upon how you would like your painting delivered.  If for some reason, you decide not to accept the commission, you will either forego your security deposit or choose to apply it toward another painting.
